Get to Know Me
I’m Sam Manzella, a Brooklyn-based freelance writer, editor, and cultural critic. I currently work as an Associate Editor at Viacom’s LGBTQ brand, Logo. My coverage areas include arts and entertainment, youth activism, and LGBTQ news and culture. I studied Journalism and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at SUNY New Paltz, where I was honored as an Outstanding Graduate in May 2018 and recognized for my excellence in creative writing and memoir in May 2017.
I presented the findings of my senior thesis, “After the Tipping Point: Investigating Visuals of Transgender People in Magazine Media,” at the November 2018 National Communication Association conference. I also interned with the prestigious American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) in the summer of 2017. When I’m not reading, writing, or reporting for my next story, I can usually be found drinking iced coffee, getting tattooed, or exploring Brooklyn.
