Get to know me 💖
I’m Sam Manzella, a Brooklyn-based freelance writer, editor, and cultural critic. I currently work as an Associate Editor at Viacom’s LGBTQ brand, Logo, where I assist senior editors with video production and long-term multimedia projects and write LGBTQ-interest cultural criticism, lifestyle coverage, and arts and entertainment coverage. I studied Journalism and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at SUNY New Paltz, where I was honored as an Outstanding Graduate in May 2018 and recognized for my excellence in creative writing and memoir in May 2017. I presented the findings of my senior thesis, “After the Tipping Point: Investigating Visuals of Transgender People in Magazine Media,” at the November 2018 National Communication Association conference. I also interned with the prestigious American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) in the summer of 2017. My original reporting, op-eds, and first-person essays have appeared in print or online at Vice, MTV News, Healthline, Yahoo Lifestyle, The Riveter, Hudson Valley Magazine, and more.
When I’m not writing or reading, I can usually be found getting tattooed, drinking iced coffee, or exploring Brooklyn.
